New Holland’s methane powered concept tractor was one of the winners of the 2018 Good Design awards, which recognises the most innovative and cutting-edge products from around the world.
Organised annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, a record 900 new products and graphic designs from 47 countries were entered for the 2018 awards.
Divided into 27 different categories covering a wide range of subjects from new electronics and energy systems to robotics and building products/materials, the international jury of designers, architects, journalists and critics, selected the methane powered concept tractor as one of the 26 winners in the transportation sector.
First unveiled in 2017, the six-pot NEF engine in the methane powered concept tractor delivers the same power and torque as its standard diesel equivalent, together with up to 30% running cost savings and around 50% reduction in drive-by-noise, says New Holland.
The methane powered concept tractor features a floating glass domed roof. All essential controls are on the integrated armrest and additional parameters controlled through the interactive headliner display.
In real field conditions, the company reckons that the concept tractor produces at least 10% lower CO2 emissions and reduces overall emissions by 80% compared to a standard diesel tractor.
Started in 1950, the Good Design awards are flagged up as the most prestigious global awards program for design excellence and innovation. Over the years, everything and anything produced from a paperclip to a Boeing 787 Dreamliner have been honoured.
