The IC-Light+ camera on Lemken Steketee mechanical hoes captures the near-infrared range for easier weed detection in crops with a high proportion of blue in the leaves.

Differing to the standard IC-Light camera system, which distinguishes between shades of green and red, the additional hues of blue captured by the IC-Light+ is said to be beneficial when working in onions, leeks, broccoli and red cabbage.

Allowing young plants or those with a particularly fine structure to be better identified and shown, the new camera system is claimed to be capable of working in onions the size of a pin!

Operated via the IC-Light terminal, it allows hoeing as close as 2.0cm from crop plants at speeds of up to 15km/hr. Detecting up to five rows of plants at a time, the camera controls the steering of the mechanical hoe between the rows.
