More than 8,000 visitors from across the UK and further afield are expected to attend Grassland UK near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, tomorrow. The event will see around £16 million worth of equipment in action across the 100-acre site, and visitors will be able to discover the latest developments from more than 140 exhibitors. New products to look out for include Agricultural Supply Services’ new Feed Reader – a quad-mounted ultrasonic measuring device to evaluate grass dry matter yields on a large scale. Merlo UK’s flagship TF50.8T-CS-156Cvtronic heavy-duty telehandler will also be on display, as will Hi-Spec Engineering’s Kompactor trailer, which compacts forage loads by up to 40%. Pottinger’s new Hit 4.54 four-rotor tedder and a new Power Control variant of the Novacat X8 triple mower will also be on display, and the company’s Europrofi Combiline loader wagon will make its working debut in the UK. Claas is bringing its new 10-rotor trailed Volto 1300T tedder to the event, plus the equally new four-rotor Liner 3600 rake. Silostop’s new Silomat weighting system, which prevents air from lifting the front edge of the silage cover, while farmers looking to transfer large amounts of silage without a trailer will be fascinated by JW Fabrication’s new standalone silage bulker and conveyor system. Cordex’s xx ID bale wrap, which uses bar-coding and a virtual identity card for complete traceability of silage bales. Galebreaker will have a new product in the clamp loading demonstrations. Taking place throughout the day, the demonstrations will also feature machines from Agco, Claas, JCB, Merlo and New Holland. Taking place at 11.30am and 1.30pm, the muck and slurry demonstrations feature rear and side discharge muck spreaders, vertical and horizontal beater and disc spreaders, umbilical slurry dribble bars and spike injectors. The popular seminar programme will cover a wide range of topics, from grassland weed control and precision farming to compaction alleviation, protein from forages, drainage, and CAP reform. “Grassland UK is a one-stop shop for livestock farmers who want to get the most from their forage,” says Alan Lyons, head of shows at the Royal Bath & West Society. “It covers everything from new grass varieties and reseeding equipment to harvesting, ensiling, feeding, and muck spreading.”
