AEA figures show that 11,580 new 50hp+ agricultural tractors were registered in the UK last year. This figure is a drop of nearly 4.0% on the 12,017 new tractors registered in 2021.

Last year’s figure was in line with the average for the previous five years, but overall, 2022 was a bit of a mixed bag when compared to the same months in 2021.

2022 started in the min with registrations down by nearly 14% in January to 500 units and by 4.0% in February to 751 units. Registrations dropped by 5.0% in March, although the 1,976 new tractors registered was the highest monthly total last year. The total for the opening three months of the year of 3,047 machines was 7.0% fewer than in the first quarter of 2021.

Registrations rallied in April to 1,152 units (+14%) and May to 1,283 units (+16%), followed by a massive 36% slide in registrations in June to 938 units.

Small ups and downs during the summer were followed by a strong October (926 units (+25%) and November 728 units (+34%). Registrations dipped by 29% in December to 628 units, but strong growth in the previous two months meant that registrations in the final quarter of 2022 were higher than a year earlier.
