While no-till is gathering pace in our part of the world, New Zealand farmers and contractors have a lot more experience of this cereal and pasture growing technique. So it makes sense, then, to have a look at the sort of machines the Kiwi firms have been creating. Meet the Duncan Enviro DD30
While you may have already seen Duncan’s inverted T coulter drills working in tillage and grassland, the Enviro DD 30 is a different beast. This trailed direct drill uses double-disc coulters to carry out the planting operation. These machines have been produced for several years, with around 50% of drill production being exported to Australia where the wider 5.0m models have proved the most popular. However, it is only recently that the Enviro has appeared in the Northern Hemisphere, and there were two working in Ireland this autumn.
