Front linkage maker Sauter showed a prototype version of a swiveling lower linkage system at Agritechnica 2017. Since then Sauter has been working with Claas on the project that allows a front mower to actively turn inwards on bends.

Claimed to significantly reduce or even completely eliminate unwanted strips and overlaps, other benefits include reduced risk of the front swath being run over, and when mowing on slopes, the offset can also be compensated for by swivelling the lower links.

Suitable for use on new and old front and rear mounted mower combinations, having removed the existing lower linkage arms, the hydraulically swivelling kit simply slots into the standard lower linkage holders.

Capable of swivelling by up to 30cm, to either the left or the right, a double acting service is required so that it can be controlled using a spool valve. Secured by a locking block for road transport, the swivelling lower links fold upwards and can be secured like normal ones when they are not needed.

The hydraulically swivelling lower links ensure that the front mower unit can be shifted laterally by 30cm to the left and right.

The lower linkage kit is pre-fitted for use with Disco mowers and suitable for use with Axion 800 and 900 Series tractors, but also with Fendt 700, 800 and 900 models.

Available in limited numbers for 2020 and full supply in 2021, the Claas dealer network is responsible for ordering the swivelling hitch direct from Sauter and for installation.

Interestingly Valtra previously had a steering front linkage system which it developed with fellow Finnish firm LH Lift more than 10 years ago for the N series tractors.
