Mitsubishi has launched a Series 6 version of its long-serving L200 pick-up. Looking to close the gap on Ford’s ubiquitous Ranger at the top of the UK’s sales charts, the latest L200 enjoys a front-end facelift and some interior spec tweaks.

But it’s under the hood and bed where the main changes can be found: new Euro 6d-compliant 2.2-litre, four-cyl turbodiesel (148hp/400Nm); upgraded 4WD system with ‘Off-Road Mode’ and Hill Descent Control; new six-speed auto transmission option; and a revised suspension for improved ride and handling.

Towing capacity is 3.5t but only with a tri-axle trailer otherwise it drops to 3.1t with a tandem axle. Payload is 1,080kg.

Commercial prices (ex VAT) start at £21,515 for the entry 4Life Club Cab and rise to £32,000+ for the flagship Barbarian X doublecab.
