John Deere’s new petrol 54hp XUV 835M and diesel 23hp XUV 865M Gators come with power steering, a CVT transmission and a top speed of 60 or 50km/hr (37 or 31mph), respectively. Available from UK and Irish dealers early 2018, these two newly-styled models are fitted with what is described as the quietest ever cab. The pressurised version can accommodate three people (off-road use only), provides plenty of leg room and a heating system that includes a windscreen defrost feature. The cargo box has a load capacity of 454kg, and towing capacity has been increased by a third to 907kg and total payload is 680kg. Fitted with a 42-litre fuel tank and a tiltable steering wheel, both machines can be fitted with a wide range of over 90 attachments.
The restyling exercise also applies to the HPX 815E, XUV 560E and XUV 590M Gators (all available this autumn), which feature new model numbers and specification updates. The diesel powered HPX 815E Gator utility vehicle shares its styling with the XUV 855M, which replaces the 855D. The 815E’s updated cargo box also has a load capacity of 454kg and both the sides and the tailgate, which has a pick-up style one-handed latch, can be removed to provide a flatbed-style load bay if required. Additional changes include a new digital dashboard, LED headlights and a restyled front bumper.
Standard features on the petrol-engine XUV 560E (non-power steering) and XUV 590M (with power steering) Gators include LED headlights and an instrument cluster for easier operation. The new styling includes alloy wheels, which allow the suspension to follow ground contours more closely. A seat belt interlock system restricts the speed to 13km/hr (8mph) if the seat belt is not done up.
