Driving impression: Claas Lexion 600 combine harvester First Claas Harvesting specialist Claas prides itself on operating up at the cutting edge, as well as being Europe’s market leader in terms of sales. For ‘06 this innovating argument gains further justification in the formidable shape of the Lexion 600 which, among other claims, boasts 586hp max engine power, a 12,000-litre grain tank and the ability to travel at 30km/hr between field sites
Think Claas. Think combines. In the ten years that Claas has been churning out its current generation of machines, the Lexion tag has become synonymous with high-output harvesting, and this, not surprisingly, is reflected in the range‘s sales. Take the family flag. Over the past decade the Lexion 480, and subsequent 580, has notched up around 4,500 retails worldwide, a stat that even Claas‘s sector rivals would have to admit represents a serious success story.
Upshot of the above is that the next stage in the Claas Lexion’s development has been keenly awaited. OK, so the long-
serving 480 was replaced by the 580 in 2003, but in design terms this was no more than a modest tweak. What observers and potential purchasers have really been waiting for is the next quantum leap forward in grain output, and Claas would argue that the new 600 is ‘it’. Amount of extra performance over the current 580? The manufacturer claims an impressive 20-25%.
