German-firm Fliegl has developed a safety camera system that attaches to front-mounted kit to improve tractor driver visibility at road junctions. Called the Hawk, the twin-camera system allows the driver to monitor the area both left and right of the tractor. Images can be displayed on a dedicated Fliegl display, but drivers not keen on cluttering up the cab will be pleased to know they can also be shown via a standard tractor terminal. A quick-release fitting allows the two cameras to be quickly removed and fitted to a wide range of front-mounted kit, including sprayer tanks and fertiliser spreader hoppers. Fliegl reckons one potential customer has even expressed an interest in fitting a system to the front weight of a large tractor. This is not the first time the company has offered such a safety camera system. The previous version offered a wide angle of vision of 120-degrees, but practical experience shows that the wider the angle the harder it is for drivers to judge the speed of oncoming vehicles. The Hawk’s narrower 60º angle extends further to the sides, which apparently makes it easier for drivers to judge speeds.
