100,000, that’s how many self-propelled windrowers the Hesston by Massey Ferguson brand has made during the past 60 years. The Kansas-based company has come a long way since founder Lyle Yost introduced the Model 100 self-propelled windrower in 1955, the first of which left the production line in 1956. Renamed as the Hydro-Static 600 (hydrostatically-powered) in 1967, more recent developments include a rear wheel steering system (RearSteer) in today’s WR9800 models. The current two-model WR9800 machines are both fitted with AGCO Power engines. The WR9860 carry’s a 4.9lit four-cylinder 195hp power pack, while the 6.6-lit 225hp unit in the WR9870 (100,000th machine) provides the muscle to operate in heavy crop conditions and hilly or rough terrain.
