DRIVING IMPRESSION: There were a handful of the new wide-working Claas Volto 1300TS tedders operating in the UK this season. We caught up with one of the pre-series machines.
Considering how Claas has such a major presence in the green harvest market, its bigger tedder offering has been lacking. However, this changes with
the introduction of the Volto TS range, which, for now, consists of just two working widths, 13.0m and 15.1m, the 1300T and 1500T. Yet there are hopes that the new trailed tedder chassis can be utilised for even wider models in the Volto range.
From the nose
The Volto T does look a much more meaty machine, and that starts at the drawbar. While the old model was carried on the lift arms, the newcomer is hitch-mounted either using a 40/50mm pin or a K80 spoon. A multi-hole arrangement allows you to optimally match it with the height of tractor. The parking stand on the left swings up out of the way once hitched up. The hydraulic pipes are stored in slots on the adjustable rack, which duly keeps
them up away from the lift arms.
The pto shaft is sourced from Walterscheid and has the grooved cover so there is no chain to attach on the tractor end. Drive runs through the central beam of the chassis and on to the central gearbox for the rotors.
