The first potato harvesters have started rolling along AVR’s new assembly line, at its factory in Roeselare, in Belgium. Located inside a new 10,000sq.m. production hall, the new line will be used to build both trailed and self-propelled harvesters. Providing staff with more space and light, the chassis of each machine is now coupled to a central chain, which automatically pulls them forward to fixed workstations. Previously, machines had to be moved from station to station using a forklift. The Belgian potato equipment manufacturer has seen sales rise continually during the past decade, and currently claims to deliver around 500 machines a year. This latest investment at the factory will increase efficiency and allow the numbers to be increased. The extra space in the former 20,000sq.m. production buildings will be used to make cultivators and planters.
