REPORT: A Fendt 818 Vario wasn’t your only 180hp stepless buying choice 20 years ago. CNH had not one but three different options in the form of the Case IH CVX, New Holland TVT and, to a lesser extent in our part of the world, the Steyr CVT.
Although Steyr and Case IH launched the first continuously variable CVT and CVX models as early as 1999, it took more than four years for the strategists in the CNH Group to decide on also introducing it as a New Holland. The TVT was almost identical to the other two tractor ranges rolling out of St Valentin, with just the colour and bonnet styling gaining a more New Holland look. Now customers had the chance to buy a tractor with an infinitely variable transmission from their trusted New Holland dealer.

Sven Booms from Oberhuasen in north west Germany was one of these customers when a TVT170 pulled into the yard back in 2006, and it has been a loyal servant to the Kisters contracting business ever since. Pulling trailers and various bits of forage equipment, the TVT has amassed 23,851 hours. This total must be more than the CNH engineering team ever envisaged, because the clock stopped counting once it hit 19,999 hours! The actual hours are now only shown in the error memory.
