With ever more schemes coming into play for environmental stewardship there’s increasing demand for kit designed to establish cover crops and wildlife strips.
Straight off the boat from Denmark, the ATV-drawn Faunamaster box-drill is apparently capable of handling all sorts of size and shape seeds from pumpkins and beans to clovers and mustards.
At the grubby end twin disc coulters open a slot in the soil before it is closed again by spring-pressured press wheels. The whole unit is raised and lowered by a 12-volt electric actuator on the drawbar although there is the option for a simple three-point linkage mounted version for compact tractors.
We’re told much of the demand is coming from councils wanting to rewild waste ground and establish wild-flowers in roadside verges – a possible contracting opportunity? Price for a 105cm wide model is £4,299 while the larger 1.8m version comes in at £5,699.
