On the demo plots at Cereals Mzuri was showcasing a wider version of its mounted Pro-Til strip-till drill. While previously the company offered only a 3.0m mounted machine, a 4.8m folding version has now been developed to cater for those growers who require extra output but don’t want to move to a trailed format.

Staying true to the original Mzuri concept, the 480 IGen has two rows of leading auto-reset tines to open up the stubble surface and create a strip of tilth. A full width packer roller follows this to provide some surface consolidation and critically depth control ahead of the tine coulters. Spaced at 320mm and mounted simply on beefy Vibroflex-style springs, the 15 openers each have a rubber press wheel to ensure even placement and seed-to-soil contact. Two rows of following harrow tines then work away to ensure friable soil is pulled into the channel left by the opening tines.

Twin metering units and a high capacity fan apparently mean it’s possible to run at speeds of up to 18km/hr, so long as you’ve got a tractor in excess of 250hp up front. Mzuri has high hopes for this latest model, saying customers can expect the mounted version to be up to 30%  cheaper per metre than its trailed equivalent.
