With a redesign of the wrapper and chassis, Kuhn’s variable-chamber baler wrapper can now pump out larger bales. Meet the new VBP7190.
Just like Kuhn’s standalone balers, the wrapper combis come in two versions: the VBP7160, which produces a bale diameter of 0.80m to 1.60m; and the VBP7190, which goes up to 1.85m. But as far as wrapping is concerned, the bales can ‘only’ vary in size from 1.00-1.60m in diameter, the bigger size limited by bale weight and, just as importantly, fitting under the combi’s orbiting wrapper arms.
Baling bits
Four belts and three rollers form the bale chamber, which made a good impression in our 9/2021 practical test on the VB7190 baler. Because it only forms a small triangle at the start of the bale, a safe start is ensured, and the crop is under pressure almost from the beginning.
Since the belts are driven by two rollers, wet, heavy crops are not a problem. Kuhn utilises active scrapers to keep the rollers clean. The I-Dense pressure control system is also familiar from our earlier practical test. It relies on continuous measurements from the moisture sensor to automatically adjust the baling pressure to the crop using the two tensioning arms.
Intake system
Crop collection starts with the 2.30m wide pick-up, which has five rows of tines in a cam[1]track. A massive crop roller is intended to flatten the rows into an easier to digest crop mat. A trademark of Kuhn balers is the rotor with its integrated augers. The central rotor section comprises three pointed stars in a helical formation to direct the crop into the chamber and over the knives — 14 as standard for a 70mm chop or 23 blades as an option.
