Weidemann mid-range loaders have different loader options, the 1260LP models we consider here covering entry-level and more complete package choices.
The Weidemann 1260LP is a compact articulated loader, but this little machine is pretty big when it comes to the options list. Such wide choice can be a good thing but it can also make choosing the right spec a bit more demanding. To help get around this, Weidemann supplied us with two 1260LP models, one a base model the other a nearly fully specified variant.
In the midfield
For a little bit of background, the 1260LP arrived in mid-2021 to replace the 1240LP. As before, the letters after the number indicate that these are LP ‘Low Position’ variants with the driver sitting lower on the platform to give an overall canopy or cab height of around 2.0m, dependent upon tyres fitted. Although the new 1260LP boasts a revised driver platform it shares the same overall dimensions as its predecessor.
As before, the 1260LP occupies a mid-range position within the Weidemann yard loader range, and measures around 1.0m across, again dependent upon tyres fitted, with an all-up weight can be low enough to allow it to be transported ona2.5t trailer. Although the latter targets those who may need to move the loader between sites, it is worth noting if this will allow it to be towed between farm sites in a pick-up trailer.
Engine and drivetrain
Power comes from a 1.7-litre Perkins 18.4kW/25hp Stage V compliant engine. As it is in the 25hp power class it does not need a particulate filter.
Despite having different operating weights, we found that both loaders achieved the same fuel consumption, both drinking 5.0l/hr during our unladen transport run. In mixed on-farm work, they were more frugal, consuming 3.5l/hr.
During the latter work, we became frustrated by the automatic shutdown system, this switching off the engine barely 20 seconds after the operator jumped off to either open a gate or move something out of the way.
