The new mid-range tractors from Eicher are built by the SLH Group, SAME Lamborghini Hürlimann. profi drove the 65kW/88hp 2090 A back in 1991. A report by Henk Beunk with photos by Stefan Tovornik.
Why, many Eicher fans ask, do the new Eicher tractors not have an Eicher engine? Then at least the most important Eicher feature would have remained! Eicher put a lot of effort into realising this idea. After all, the prototype of the new model range at Agritechnica 1989 in Frankfurt, still had the three-cylinder Eicher engine with separate air cooling.
However, this ‘perfect’ solution became too expensive in view of the small production numbers. So, as a result, the new Eicher tractors are now technically identical to the Hürlimann tractors. Eicher makes no secret of this, which of course wouldn’t make any sense: anyone who knows tractors of the SLH Group can see their DNA in the new Eicher models. Only the livery paint finish and some of the standard spec features have remained ‘Eicher’.
All of this means the familiar Eicher engine has disappeared. The four new Eicher tractor models cover the 51kW/70hp to 67kW/103hp bracket and have the water-cooled four-cyl engine with a displacement of 4 litres that powers the same models from Lamborghini and Hürlimann. A special feature of these engines is the fuel injection: each cylinder head has its own (Bosch) pump.
