Having built up a following in the amenity and grounds-care sectors, Kioti is coming with extra horsepower as it looks to gain a foothold in the ag market. The HX is currently the largest model available in the UK, so we took one for a spin.
There’s a good chance that Kioti isn’t on your radar when you think of a standard tractor around the 100hp mark. The Daedong company, known as Kioti outside of its native Korea, produces up to 45,000 tractors annually. And it is not just assembling the bits: a large chunk of the key components is made inhouse including engine, axle and transmissions.
The three-model, 91-117hp HX (High Luxury) range comes with a five-year or 3,000-hour warranty for the powertrain and engine, so there is self-confidence in the product.
The trio of HXs are relatively straightforward, sharing the same Daedong four-cylinder, with the 1201 having a power boost to increase its output up to 127hp. The 3.8-litre motor is Stage V compliant using SCR, DOC and DPF.
Climb in and drive off
Kioti redesigned the spacious five-post cab for the HX. It offers a lot of space, combined with a good all-round view. There is even a one-piece windscreen for an uninterrupted view. The back window, while heated, does not open wide enough. The overall base spec is very good, with the armrest having raise/lower buttons for the rear lift, hand throttle and powershift. And of course air-conditioning is also included.
The soundproofing of the cab at rated speed could be improved. When working at speeds below 2,000rpm, the noise level is noticeably better. We really liked the informative, clear dashboard and the easy-to-grip lever for the shuttle. A large joystick for the front loader is being introduced in the coming months. Lighter steering effort would be beneficial, especially if yard work is a priority.
