The HD gearboxes fitted to Maschio’s latest power harrows has allowed tractor power to be increased to 300hp in the Orso, 400hp in the Toro and 550hp in the Jumbo. The new gearboxes, which have undergone intense testing in Italy and subjected to close scrutiny in the UK, feature double the oil capacity, strengthened parts and increased cooling capacity to allow them to transfer the extra power. New heavy duty bevel gears are also fitted, with stronger 85mm shaft diameters (increase of 5mm). Other gearbox features include a forced oil recycling system with twin holes at the top to keep the machines running smoothly and increase oil flow to where it’s needed. The gearboxes use synthetic oil and have a glass oil plug for checking oil levels. Maschio says the double drain plugs for gearbox oil also simplify maintenance. Any extra heat generated is dissipated by 300mm (a third larger) cooling fans and enhanced ventilation, with outer fins fitted to increase surface area and radiate heat to keep the gearbox cooler.

Another new feature is welded blade support, alongside strengthened, wear-resistant 16mm thick, tungsten-coated blades which are capable of a working depth of 28cm. Maschio power harrows are available in a range of models up to 550hp and widths up to 8m.
