Head torches are a brilliant bit of kit. We compare seven models from popular maker Ledlenser to see just what modern headlights can do.

The latest generation of LEDs have yet again pushed the bar for the humble head torch. For example, Ledlenser specifies the luminous flux of the H15R Work headlamp in ‘boost’ mode as a staggering 2,500lm (lumens). That’s more than many agricultural machinery work lights have to offer. We measured 11,000 lux from the 170 60W bulbs in the H15R Work. Bright enough to get the job done. Our tip: regardless of the manufacturer, do not let yourself be blinded by the information in the brochures, because our most recent profi tests reveal that this information often differs significantly from our test results.
Confusing variety of offers
Once we had decided to do a head torch test, we quickly reached our limits when looking for equipment that would be suitable for profi readers. There is a large range of products out there with an enormous price range. The cheapest is less than £1, while at the other end of the spectrum the price tag was north
of £300.
At this point we remembered an earlier profi practical test on flashlights in which German manufacturer Ledlenser had returned good results. The company employs more than 650 people around the world and offers a large portfolio — including head torches. So, it made sense to have a scroll through its website and select several typical lights that would suit agri life.
