While rotary combines are growing in popularity with UK farmers, there are those who prefer a walker based machine when it comes to separating grains. Here is our round-up of machines which will be available for the 2023 season
With the exception of Case IH, which remains focused on its long-proven Axial-Flow rotary threshing and separation technology, all combine manufacturers continue to produce walker-separation machines. This method of separating residual grain from the straw originates in the days of the earliest static threshing machines, of course, but that is not to say a modern straw walker combine is in any way backward.
Catering for small- to medium-size growers – as well as larger producers who put straw quality for bedding at the top of their harvesting priority list – walker combines can be as simple or as advanced as you like, with all the modern electronics technologies available to help optimise performance.
And while the simplest machines at the lower end of the performance scale provide an opportunity for smaller growers to make a long-term investment in a new combine, at the other end of the scale, performance in terms of sheer output has hit new heights with the latest machines.
