Even a few stars in the sky are enough to help cows see well (profi 3/2022). Cattle can’t cope with a high contrast: for instance, abrupt changes of light when walking out of a bright milking parlour into a dark alleyway. Bovine eyes take much longer to adjust to a new level of light when compared to humans, and this often explains why cows stop for no apparent reason before moving on again once they have adjusted to a change in light.
