Claas has signed a follow-up agreement with Rolls-Royce to cover supply of MTU engines for the next few years. Each year, Claas will buy several thousand 1000 to 1500 series engines to power its Lexion and Tucano combines, Jaguar forage harvesters and Xerion tractors.
Covering power outputs from 240hp-643hp, the engines were designed in collaboration with Daimler for off-highway purposes and modified for agricultural applications.
MTU engines power around half of the combine harvesters built by Claas, and in addition to meeting Stage V requirements, the blocks can be optionally purchased with dual certification for compliance with the Tier 4f standard valid in the US and Canada.
