Straw spreaders on modern combines can adjust the amount of throw to account for crosswinds, so it would make sense to do the same with fertiliser spreaders. Amazone has done this with its new WindControl option on ZA-TS models
Standout feature of an Amazone spreader fitted with WindControl is the extendable mast on the righthand side of the hopper. Sited at the top is an anemometer, which sits at least 40cm above the cab. Sourced from the marine industry, this measures the wind speed and direction using ultrasound, so there are no rotating or moving parts to fret about.
