The TCG 7.8 H2, the first Deutz hydrogen engine, has ticked all the right boxes on the test bench. A pilot project is due to start early next year and the new block is scheduled to go into full production in 2024.
Based on an existing design, the quiet-running and carbon-neutral six-cylinder block generates a power output of 200kW (268hp).
Suitable for all current Deutz applications, available infrastructure is expected to limit the initial use to stationary equipment, generators and rail transport. It could be a few years before we see anything in a tractor.
The first application will be for power generation in partnership with a regional utility company. The pilot project is scheduled to start early 2022.
“We already manufacture clean and highly efficient engines,” says CEO Frank Hiller of Deutz AG. “Now we are taking the next step. Our hydrogen engine is ready for the markets.”
