They are not coming to Europe, but North American farmers waiting for a yellow version of the recently-launched Fendt 1100 Vario MT tracked tractors can now order one of the new Challenger MT800 models.
We are still waiting for the first official working pictures, but can confirm that the four six-pot models; MT851 (511hp), MT856 (564hp), MT862 (618hp) and MT867 (673hp), are technical identical to the recently-launched Fendt 1100 Vario MTs.
Sharing their MAN engines, CVT, updated track and chassis system, more hydraulic and rear linkage options; the only differences are joystick functionality and warranty. The Fendt Profi multifunctional joystick on the 1100s provides for four programmable headland sequences (two on the MT800 Advantage joystick). Also, up to 10 ISObus implement operation and control functions can be assigned to various buttons on the Fendt joystick, which is not possible on the MT800s.
Challenger versions are covered by a two-year, 2,000-hour limited warranty, whereas the 1100 Vario MTs are backed by what Fendt calls Gold Star Customer Care. This is a full 36-months or 3,000 hours warranty, with all scheduled maintenance provided, including the oil, filters, belts and maintenance items during this time.
Could it be that AGCO hopes the higher level of operating sophistication and extended warranty could entice traditional Challenger customers to opt for nature green models?
The company has already pulled the plug on Challenger in Europe and given the tracked tractors to Fendt. We will have to wait and see whether a similar move is planned in North America.
Production of the first MT800s and 1100 Vario MTs, both of which are manufactured at the same Jackson (USA) facility, is expected to start early next year.
