Construction work has started on a new state-of-the-art workshop for Irish John Deere dealer Meath Farm Machinery.
Planned to open in the autumn, it will contain a gantry crane to lift cabs and engines, and a computerised engine oil and transmission oil filling system. Managing director Ian Timmons says the new workshop will allow mechanics to work on two combines, 10 tractors and a self-propelled forage harvester all at the same time (existing workshop one combine and five tractors).
The old workshop will continue to be used, but not for working on tractors and farm machines. “Half of it will be used to accommodate an extended parts supply and the other half for refurbs and used tractors,” adds Mr Timmons.
As well as the full John Deere line up, Meath Farm Machinery sells Kramer loaders and telehandlers, and machinery from other brands, including Twose, HiSpec, Smyth Trailers, Tanco, Sulky, SIP and Kuhn.
Currently operating in Counties Meath, Kildare, Dublin, Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, Westmeath, Longford, Leitrim and Sligo, the majority of the over 40 full time staff are based at company headquarters in Kilberry.
Founded 40 years ago this year by Peter Timmons in 1979, Meath Farm Machinery has operated from its base at Kilberry Cross, Navan Co. in Meath ever since.
Also operating from a second branch at Poles on the outskirts of Cavan town, the company reckons the new workshop will serve its customers for the next 40 years.
